Introduction

The Virtual Reality Modeling Language 2.0 (VRML 2.0) was defined on August 96, as a modification of the previous VRML 1.0. The specification is available at http://vrml.sgi.com/ moving-worlds/ spec/ [VRML-Sp]. See also http://www.sdsc.edu/vrml/ [VRML-General]. Presently an ISO/IEC DIS 14772-1 is under consideration [ISO-DIS].

Its goal is to provide a rich (3D) interactive graphical environment allowing the user to define static and animated worlds, and to interact with the defined worlds.

The present document intends to offer an introductory view of VRML (in the following used for VRML 2.0), detailing the different commands and using examples in order to present VRML to future users. We will not repeat many of the detailed explanation contained in the specification (see above paragraph), trying to concentrate ourselves in giving the reader useful examples.

The main document will present a short overview of each VRML command and the related examples will explain in more detail the parameters and the use of the command.

The use and distribution of this document is free for non-commercial purpose. We would appreciate comments on the text ( leopini@dca.fee.unicamp.br ).
